Events

One of the aspects of our mission is to go beyond the usual gardening crowd and reach out into the world to open up the conversation about how our creepy crawlies are essentially also our greatest heroes!

That means we have to acknowledge that when we disregard our bugs and pollinators we give into fear and let’s face it… that’s not what courageous people do.

Our heroes are all about teaching us to do what needs to be done even when we are afraid. Rebel events are opportunities for people to replace their fear with curiosity.

One of the strange phenomena of humanity is that we think belonging means we have to to only belong to one group. Hang out with the gamers or the sports people or the environmentalists. Our fandoms unite us in untold ways. We can love native plants and be a Marvel Fan. We can all enjoy dressing up and making children happy even if all our politics are not perfectly aligned.

Our fandoms help us to crystallize and broadcast our values as a more unified group. By participating in events that are fun, magical, and exciting, we connect with each other to agree on things that are hard to dispute under any circumstances. We love beauty and we worry for the world we are leaving behind for our children. Inherently we learn better when we play together and that is what Rebel Events are all about.

Upcoming Events:

May 2nd 2021 12 noon. - Join us at the Bedford 2030 Earth Day Festival - We are welcoming a special guests. Members of the Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion, Vader’s Fist will be in attendance to show that the force is strong with us!!

Nights In July - Dates to be Posted - FIREFLY NIGHTS!! Enjoy a sunset picnic in our pollinator meadow to watch a dazzling display of fireflies. Some firefly nights will be ACTUAL FIREFLY nights for those of you who are fans of Firefly TV show and movies. We will enjoy a little light cosplay (too hot for a Jane hat we think) and picnic while doing trivia and enjoying the fandom. This year we are asking that attendees help us to collaborate to support local restaurants by ordering take out and bringing it to the meadow picnic.

Fairy Garden Dance - Join Us in July for our first ever children’s fairy dance in the meadow. Children are encouraged to dress up and we will be reading stories about Fairies including Leila’s Goal by award winning children’ author Sara Woodard. Due to Covid uncertainty we have not settled on a date for this event yet but one will be posted!

Annual Monarch Release - Each year we raise one large batch of monarchs that are available for visits and education sessions for children and adults. Keep an eye on our facebook page, as butterflies emerge we will meet you or your children in the meadow or butterfly gardens at Passidomo Park so you can hand release them. We also do caterpillar visits to help get an up close look at all the stages of growth and help children to connect with these miraculous insects.

Halloween Costume Contest - We would like to host a local Westchester based Cosplay contest that gives us all the things we aren’t allowed to do at Comicon. Want your own walk on music? How about some different themes and categories? Don’t want to haul your elaborate costume down to Javits? If you are interested in helping us make this event a reality for the Fandom Community in Westchester County and also for everyone who wants to come out, dress up, and have fun, please contact us! We would like to get an event organized by October of 2021 or 2022 in collaboration with our recreation department.
