Earth Day Rebels
May 2nd 2021, we were joined by volunteers from the Rebel Legion and the 501st Legion to represent the Rebel Butterfly Gardeners at the Bedford Hills Train Station for the annual Earth Day Festival!
We felt the event was a big success and we were so excited to have volunteers from these international organizations join us to support our cause. As the first fandom based group to work on a conservation mission we could not have chosen a better way to represent at this event. We gave prizes to fans who came dressed up to attend in true Comicon Style. We were joined by a Trekkie, Wonder Woman, Spider man, several storm troopers, and another Mandalorian. A few children were at Earth Day wielding light sabers to fight the good fight!
Making Contact and networking with so many other hardworking warriors for better and greener communities was awesome. We got to chat with the local chapters of the Audubon Society, Westchester Land Trust, and many others who are holding down the fort in this epic battle. The most difficult part of this for all of us has been trying to reach those who haven’t considered how climate change, pollinator health, and the availability of fresh healthy food and green spaces is affecting them. While the pandemic has been awful in so many ways, it is the first time in a long time the world had to collectively hit the pause button, and that means a chance to have conversations about where we go from here and what we want for our children’s futures.
